A new website for the newly rebranded Leeds College of Art

Leeds College of Art produces some of the country’s finest artists and designers and was ranked the best independent art college in the Guardian's league tables in 2014.

As our local art college, we jumped at the chance to create a website that did justice to the heritage of the college and the brilliant work of its students.

The challenge

We needed to make the site more engaging and attractive for students new and old alike, as well as help the college grow. So, using our Discovery process we conducted a detailed statistical analysis of the site’s current features, user's needs and the college's recruitment objectives. This allowed us to create a tailored plan supported by state-of-the-art research using focus groups from each of their target audiences.

Our solution

Using what we’d learnt, we began with interactive wire-framing to test various user journeys before designing the website. This involved taking the college’s recently re-branded offline material and making it work online. Just as importantly, we put lots of thought into how best to showcase students’ work as an online gallery. After all, they had fantastic pieces of art and design that needed to shine.


A student showcase

We created a clear, stylish, and adaptive website worthy of the students’ work, especially when viewed on a smartphone device. We’re pleased to still be working closely with Leeds College of Art, creating new and innovative ways to make even more of their talented staff and students. In fact, we’re now aiming to position the College as a digital leader in art and design education.
