Considering Facebook has more than 1.7 billion active users, it’s no surprise many businesses are creating a Facebook page to promote and expand awareness of their company.

However, creating a Facebook page that people will notice, like and engage with is a bit trickier than it sounds. So what can you do to make your page noticed and optimise its success?

Below we have five top tips of how to make the most of your Facebook pagee.

1. Plan your conversational calendar

When the days are always so busy and your To-Do List is 10 pages long, it’s hard to remember all the major news and events – a conversational calendar will make sure you don’t forget to post about them! Planning the ideas that you want to include on your page each week is an easy way to ensure the content you post is organised and engaging for your audience.

Facebook have a great page to help you get started here.

2. Offer value

Customers want to hear updates about your business but it’s vital not to get carried away. Providing a timely combination of content about your business, such as product tips, sales events, promotions and photos, alongside links to industry blogs and forums will offer greater value to your audience. Forbes have some handy content tips here.

Another great way of keeping your customers interested and to drive online sales is to include a regular weekly or monthly feature, such as “discount of the week”.

3. Geo targeted likes to avoid wastage

Targeting your Facebook ads by interest and location is a great way to get more engagement with your page. These are the people who are most likely to be your customers and therefore these are the people that will like, share and comment on your posts. Lack of engagement can be damaging to your page, so make sure you target the right people.

4. Use links to optimise the descriptions of your profile picture and cover photo

Keeping your image captions short and snappy is always better as it keeps your audience engaged. An eye-catching caption with links on your profile picture and cover photo is a great way of allowing interested people to get to know more about your company and what you do.

5. Be clever with your cover photo

... by adding a Call-to-Action Button

In 2014, Facebook launched a new feature which allows it’s users to add a call-to-action (CTA) button to the cover photo on their Facebook page. There are seven pre-made CTA buttons to choose from – “Sign up”, “Shop Now”, “Contact Us”, “Book Now”, “Use App”, “Watch Video” and “Play Game” – which users can customise with a destination URL of their choosing. This is a great way to drive traffic from your Facebook business page to your website and allow people to learn more about your business.

Add a CTA button by clicking the ‘Create Call-to-Action’ button located on your cover photo, it will then give you the option to pick the button copy you want and specify the URL you want to direct visitors to.

You can see how many people are clicking your button by simply selecting the drop-down arrow on your button and selecting ‘View Insight’.

... by integrating your profile picture and cover photo

Your profile picture and cover photo is a brilliant opportunity to show the personality of your business and be creative. If you feel confident in your design skills, you can try integrating your profile picture and cover photo in clever and imaginative ways. Coca-Cola have done an innovative idea on their Facebook page using this idea, here’s the link to take a look.

A handy tool for designing these images is Canva, which gives you access to a huge gallery of images, graphics and illustrations that allows you to create attention-grabbing cover pictures in no time.
